Norfolk, Va. - Two people were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds around 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police say one person has now died. This case is now being investigated as a homicide and malicious wounding.

Norfolk Police says one adult man walked into a hair salon in the 600 block of East Liberty Street and asked people to call police because he had been shot.

Units responded to take the man to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment. He was awake and alert.

Police also confirm a second gunshot victim was reported in the area several blocks away from the first victim.

One victim has serious injuries while the other has non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the shootings are related and that the victims both fled the incident on foot.

One of the bullets ended up shattering the door at New Central Baptist Church.

Hortense Greene says today's shooting is just another example of how things have gone downhill in this area.

"The area is not like it used to be. You know, I was born and raised in the Berkley area and we never had stuff like this to happen," she says.

Hortense says the church is going to need help if the community wants Berkley turned around.

"It is a community project. If we get out and canvass the neighborhood and the people that live right here in the area right here don't do anything to stop the crime, it is going to keep happening," she says.

They are working to confirm the exact location of the incident.

Additional updates will be posted as they become available.
