Elizabeth City man arrested after domestic dispute ends in gunfire

Elizabeth City, N.C. – An Elizabeth City man is in jail after police say he allegedly beat his girlfriend, then fired shots at her, her sister and an infant child as they fled in a car.

Police initially responded to a call of a domestic argument and gunshots on Hunter Street on Sunday. When they arrived they found a bruised Tairina Spellman, her sister Christine Mullen and an infant child.

Spellman told police her boyfriend Clinton Rashod Franklin had beat her and then threatened to kill her and her sister at gunpoint.

Spellman said she and her sister grabbed the infant and ran to a car to get away.

Franklin allegedly fired several shots at the car as it left, no one inside was harmed.

Franklin was arrested and is being held in the Albemarle District Jail on a $136,000 bond.
