Virginia Beach, Va. – The Commonwealth’s Attorney for Virginia Beach has determined that an off-duty Portsmouth officer’s use of deadly force during an attempted bank robbery was justified.

The officer shot Courtney Andrew Holloman on September 14th during an attempted robbery at the Chartway Federal Credit Union on Ferrell Parkway police say.

Police say Holloman went into the bank wearing a mask and all black clothing and told the people inside it was a “bank robbery.” Witnesses told police that they saw what looked like a black handgun pointed toward bank tellers.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney says pointing anything that looks like a gun in the direction of an officer and announcing the fact that it was a bank robbery made the officer justified in his decision to use deadly force against Holloman.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney says no charges will be prosecuted against the officer involved.
