Suffolk, Va. -After closing the main festival site on Thursday due to weather and power outages, the Suffolk Peanut Festival was back up and running on Friday.

Some kids activities were cancelled but all events for Friday are operating as scheduled.

Attendance was down earlier in the day but seemed to pick up as the afternoon went on, which is a relief for organizers after the first day cancellation.

Hay has been put down to cover the muddy spots where flood waters rose on Thursday.

They say lightning struck a power pole which knocked out power to most of the festival.

Some who didn't make it to the Shrimp Feast before it was cancelled on Thursday, some were concerned about getting a refund. Organizers will meet next week to decide how to remedy that situation.

Suffolk Parks and Recreation advises that all of the Gooberland youth activities scheduled for Friday have been canceled due to the weather at the festival.

They say senior citizens who have already pre-registered for Bingo will be able to participate in the game at the gym in the East Suffolk Recreation Center on 138 S. 6th Street.

The Gospel Showcase, which was scheduled for Sunday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. on the Harvest Family Stage, has also been cancelled.

Suffolk Peanut Festival attendees are encouraged to check the Suffolk Festivals website, http://www.suffolkfest.org and Facebook, for possible event cancellations and further updates.
