Supporters ventured out to the 2013 Making Strides of Peninsula walk in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – Walkers and supporters alike braved the dreary weather today in support of breast cancer awareness.

With over 80 teams participating and over 1,000 participants, local organizers in conjunction with the American Cancer Society’s, hosted the 2013 Making Strides  of Peninsula, Va.

The 5k walk took place in Newport News on a charted course through the beautiful Mariner’s Museum.  During the 3.1 mile trek, walkers were able to listen to the sounds of the Annie-Wade Band while crossing such landmarks as the Lion’s Bridge which overlooks the James River.

Walkers and supporters were also able to take part in fun-filled activities such as prize drawings, an aerial “human pink ribbon” picture, and much more!

According to organizers of the 2013 Making Strides of Peninsula VA Walk, the event was able to raise $109,581.77.
