UPDATE: Newport News police investigating robbery, shooting

Newport News, Virginia - Police say a man was robbed and shot while walking down Woods Road near Sundown Lane around 1:30am Sunday.

Officers responding to the incident located the victim, a 31 year-old Newport News man, suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim told police as he was walking, a white four-door vehicle, possibly a Kia, stopped in the roadway. Two men got out of the car with guns and demanded his property.

The victim pulled out his cell phone and threw it on the ground and attempted to run away.

The suspects then began shooting at him, striking him in the leg.

The suspects fled the scene in the white car and were last seen on Woods Road near J. Clyde Morris Boulevard.

The victim was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The first suspect is described as a black male, about 6'1", 175 pounds, in his mid to late twenties, with a medium build. He was wearing a white hat and a white shirt and was armed with a gun.

The second suspect is described as a black male, average height and build, wearing a black jacket and lighter color blue jeans and armed with a gun.
