Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man has been charged with child abuse after allegedly hitting his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter.
The girls’ mother called police on Friday to report that Gregory Justin Lawrence had watched the girl at their home on Old Oyster Point road the day before. The girl told her mother that her back hurt from Lawrence hitting her and the mother found bruises on the girl’s back and chest.
The girl was taken to a local emergency room for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Lawrence was arrested and charged with one count of cruelty and injuries to a child, a class six felony. He was also served with an emergency protective order.
