Woman arrested for heroin trafficking in Dare County

Dare County, N.C. – A woman in Dare County is facing various drug charges after an arrest made on Monday, according to Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard of the Dare County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened on Monday, October 14, 2013. Dare County Narcotics Task Force arrested 31-year-old Shellie Jean Harmon. She is charged with trafficking opium or heroin; and possession with the intent to manufacture, sell or deliver heroin.

Harmon is now in the custody of the Dare County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 bond, officials say.

During the course of this investigation and arrest, a trafficking amount of heroin and some cash were seized. According to the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, Task Force officers are continuing the investigation and more arrests are expected.

Sheriff J. D. “Doug” Doughtie made the following statement:

“Our Deputies and the Officers from our Law Enforcement partners are working every day to stem the flow of Heroin and other dangerous drugs into Dare County. We have identified source counties and are working with the law enforcement agencies in those counties for our mutual benefit. We are also seeking information from local residents.
