Portsmouth, Va. - A soldier from Portsmouth is charged in the death of her newborn daughter.
24-year-old Ashley Ard appeared in an Alaska court room last week.
According to a recent report, the 24-year-old Army Specialist gave birth to a girl, and then abandoned the child in a park - not far from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
The CBS affiliate there says a dog walker found the child wrapped in a blanket on October 15.
Ard has been charged with second degree murder.
If convicted - she could face up to 99 years in prison.
