UPDATE: The man’s body was located by a Hertford County side scan sonar team in the Albemarle Sound on Monday.
Portsmouth, Va. – The US Coast Guard responded to a call of a man who fell overboard a boat in the Albemarle Sound in North Carolina today.
A motorist called the Coast Guard Sector North Carolina Command Center at approximately 11:30am after noticing the incident while driving over the highway 32 bridge. The motorist told officials that they saw a person fall overboard and needed assistance.
Sector North Carolina issued an urgent information broadcast and dispatched crews aboard a 25-foot response boat from the US Coast Guard Station in Elizabeth City, NC. They also dispatched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter to search for the man.
Good Samaritans responded to the UMIB and a Chowan County marine police boat crew are also assisting in the search.
