Newport News, Va. – A section of Warwick Boulevard, from Fort Eustis Boulevard to Pickett’s Line, will be closed for repairs and safety improvements beginning this Friday, November 8 at 6:00 p.m. through Monday, November 11 at 5:00 a.m.
Businesses in the area will remain open and access will available.
The closure will allow for the replacement of the railroad tracks and crossing material to eliminate potholes along the tracks as well as the installation of flashing warning lights and gates that will activate when a train is present.
Federal grants to the City will pay for the approximately $700,000 projects, officials say.
The Veterans Day weekend was chosen after discussion with Joint Base Langley/Eustis staff and availability of the contractor.
It was determined that there would be less impact to the local community with some military personnel and citizens observing the federal holiday.
Travelers are urged to use Interstate 64 or Jefferson Avenue as alternate routes.
