A gas leak is now under control in Camden County, according to Sheriff Tony Perry.
On Thursday, November 7 at 7:47 a.m. Central Communications received a call in reference to a natural gas leak located at the Towne Bank of Currituck, 178 West Highway 158 in Camden County.
Barnhill is currently conducting construction on Hwy 158 in Camden; crews struck a gas line, causing a natural gas leak.
South Camden Fire Department, Elizabeth City Fire Department, and Camden County Sheriff’s Office responded.
At 7:54 a.m., Hwy 158 was blocked off, officials say, and traffic was diverted through Country Club Road and Upton Road for approximately one hour and 40 minutes.
As of 9:21 a.m. Piedmont Natural Gas contained the leak. All units are clear and Hwy 158 is back open to all traffic.
