A 80-year-old man was killed Tuesday morning in a traffic crash in Kill Devil Hills, according to Kill Devil Hills Police.
Police say 80-year-old Shreve Bunting was traveling southbound on Croatan Highway when his vehicle side-swiped a pickup truck before losing control and crossing into the northbound lanes.
When Bunting’s vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic, he was hit by a tractor-trailer carrying gasoline.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was able to regain control of his truck and injury to other motorists.
Bunting did not survive his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The other drivers involved were treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.
The tractor trailer did not experience any gas leak, there was no threat to businesses and residences in the area, and no evacuation of the immediate area was ordered. The tanker was carrying gasoline.
