UPDATE: Crews say they have continued to search for a body that was spotted near the John P. Mugler Bridge on Thursday morning. They have now suspended their efforts and they will continue to monitor the situation.

They used side scan and sonar to search the area. They also searched near the HRBT, the VA Hospital and Strawberry Banks. They have not located the person but they will continue to check and monitor the area.

Hampton, Va. - An all-morning search for the body of a man spotted floating in the water between the HRBT and Fort Monroe was called off just after 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

Police were first called around 7:30 by someone who saw the body in the water from the Mugler Bridge

The first officers on scene also spotted what appeared to be a man's body in the water

Fishermen who work the area say strong currents probably hurt the efforts to retrieve the body

This is the second body spotted floating in these waters in Hampton this year

In June, a man was found not too far away in the water near the Hampton VA.

Police say that death was not criminal

And in Newport News, police are still trying to ID a man found floating in Peterson's Yacht Basin in September 2012.

They released a sketch of the man last month in hopes of bringing closure to the case.
