Winston Salem, N.C. - The championship match-up between Winston-Salem State University and Virginia State has been canceled after officials say a group of Virginia State players attacked WSSU's quarterback.

According to WGHP, One of the players says this happened during a luncheon on Friday on Winston-Salem's campus. An employee says the fight broke out in the bathroom at the Anderson Center on the campus.

Norfolk running back Lamont Darnell Britt was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury. He is now being held in Forsyth County on $7,500 bond.

Officials say Britt is accused of assaulting Rudy Johnson by hitting him in the face and head. Two hours after the alleged attack, the CIAA called the game off.

Britt has a court date set for Dec. 9th.
