The local St. Jude’s “Give thanks. Walk.” was held today at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk.

St. Jude “Give thanks. Walk.” is a fundraiser that helps raise funds for research and care of St. Jude patients.

The walk took place in 75 communities nationwide to support children fighting cancer and other diseases with groundbreaking research and exceptional care.

Event Marketing Representative, Leilani Lawrence said “Registration is free but we are encouraging every walker to fundraise for the kids of St. Jude.”

Prizes were awarded when you raised $35, $100 and $250, but any amount helps.

Family-friendly activities, including face painting, a Zumba warm-up and more were available from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Participants can began checking in at 8:30 a.m.

Opening ceremony started at 9:45 a.m.

“We’re expecting over 900 walkers. All supporting the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where no family ever receives a bill” said Leilani Lawrence.

NewsChannel 3 isn’t new to supporting the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We support the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway yearly where tickets are purchased for $100 for a chance to win a brand new home.

The proceeds of ticket sales go towards St. Jude’s research and care.
