Update: Tornado watch and wind advisory

A tornado watch, gale warning, and wind advisory have all been issued for parts of NewsChannel 3’s viewing area.

The tornado watch  issued for parts of North Carolina that was in effect until 4 a.m. Wednesday has now been extended until 8a.m. for the following areas:  Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Dare, Duplin, Greene, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Onslow, Pamlico, Pitt, Tyrell, Kitty Hawk, and Nags Head.

The gale warning will remain in effect until 7:00 a.m. Wednesday and affects all of the lower Chesapeake Bay and nearby rivers as well as coastal waters in SE Virginia from Cape Charles to Currituck Beach in NE North Carolina extending 20 miles out to sea.

The current wind advisory is in effect for Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks portion of Currituck County.
