Lynnhaven Mall was anything but empty this Black Friday.
For Macy's and 60 other stores, it's a 26-hour marathon. Doors opened at 8 o'clock Thanksgiving night and won't close until late this evening.
“This year when we announced we would open at 8 pm we, put a survey out to our employees asking them if they were willing to work so all of the employees that worked last night at 8 pm have actually volunteered for that shift,” says Cathy Davis, a Macy’s Store Manager.
Rather than the usual doorbuster deals, mall officials say stores took a different route this year, some of them discounting everything on their racks.
Of course, many Black Friday shoppers say the deals drew them in.
But for others, black Friday is so much more than that. They say it's about tradition and a little quality time with grandma and grandpa.
