Hampton, Va. - An early-morning fire heavily damaged an apartment and storage area at a Hampton residence.
Firefighters received the initial call about the fire in the 100 block of Shenandoah Ave. at 1:17 am.
Units responded to find visible flames and smoke at the two-story structure. The bulk of the fire was extinguished within 30 minutes.
The building is composed of three storage/garage areas on the ground floor and an apartment on the second floor.
Two people who lived in an apartment above the garage smelled smoke and escaped unhurt.
Both the apartment and one of the storage areas sustained severe fire damage.
Two residents were displaced and the Red Cross was on scene to provide
assistance. At this time, the Hampton Fire Marshal’s office is still investigating
this incident.
