Two firefighters injured battling flames at Hampton homes

Hampton, Va. – Two firefighters were slightly injured on Friday while fighting flames at two homes in Hampton on Friday.

They were working to put out a fire at a home in the first block of West Chamberlain Avenue at around noon. When crews arrived, they say heavy fire was coming from the upstairs bedroom windows. The family was not home at the time.

A home next door was also damaged on the outside.

The two firefighters were hurt when the roof of a porch they were on detached from the home and collapsed. They were taken to Sentara Careplex for treatment. They have since then returned to full duty.

Investigators say the fire started in the floor joists below a second floor bedroom. They believe the fire was electrical in nature and are ruling it accidental.

The fire caused heavy damage to the bedroom and some other areas in the home.
