Williamsburg, Virginia – A tree fell and took down several power lines in the 300 block of Merrimac Trail early Tuesday, causing power outages in the area.

Williamsburg Fire Department spokesman Eric Stone says the incident happened around 4:30am and that it caused a transformer to fall in the middle of the road.

The road was closed to traffic for most of the day but residents are able to get in and out.

Dominion Power says the power was restored around 2:30 p.m.
