UPDATE: Power was restored to all customers as of 7:47 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014.
Dominion Virginia Power’s interactive outage map reports more than 3,000 outages across the entire Hampton Roads area.
The website says that power will be restored sometime between 9 a.m and 11 a.m.
An outage in Virginia Beach on Bonney Road was due to a pole fire probably weather related, according to Dominion Virginia Power spokesperson Bonita Harris. Crews had to drop the circuit to contain the damage, Harris says.
Approximately 3,068 customers were originally affected at 6:55 a.m. That included Kempsville Meadows and Larkspur Middle School, but both were closed.
All but 1,043 customers were back on by 7:21 a.m. The remaining customers are expected to have power restored by 8 a.m. Friday morning, Harris says.
An outage was also reported in Chesapeake near Dominion Boulevard, where a tree limb fell on a line, knocking out power to 316 customers. Power was restored to all of those customers by 6:30 a.m. Friday morning.
According to Harris, 204 customers on the Peninsula and Yorktown lost power at 6:51 a.m. Crews are currently working to restore power to those customers.
