Virginia Beach Mayor Will Sessoms will deposit a new time capsule in City Hall on Tuesday, January 14th.
The city’s original time capsule was placed in the northwest cornerstone of City Hall on June 1st, 1969.
It contained pictures, newspapers and other artifacts, along with a letter from Virginia Beach City Manager Roger Scott stating, “The City of Virginia Beach today is a baby within this great Commonwealth, now only seven and one-half years of age. We have made great strides in this short period, but we also realize that in reality we have only scratched the surface, for the potential of this area is unlimited.”
That time capsule was opened in October 2013.
The ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, outside City Hall, near North Landing Road. Many former mayors, judges and city officials will attend. A reception will be held afterwards in the City Hall lobby. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held inside City Hall.
