Portsmouth, Va. – Due to hazardous travel conditions and a concern for motorists’ safety, Elizabeth River Crossings encourages motorists who have not yet obtained an E-ZPass to do so online or by telephone to avoid the unnecessary travel to obtain one in person.

Recognizing that the actual E-ZPass transponders will not arrive before tolling commences on February 1, ERC will honor the E-ZPass rates for those motorists who open a Virginia E-ZPass account and register their vehicle license plates to an E-ZPass account online or by phone by 11:59 p.m., Friday January 31, 2014.

ERC will continue to honor the E-ZPass rates without a transponder until Wednesday, February 5 at 11:59 p.m., to allow time for transponders to be received and installed by newly registered account holders.

To obtain an E-ZPass online, visit http://www.DriveERT.com or http://www.ezpassva.com. Those who prefer to open an account and register by telephone can do so by calling 1-855-ERT-ROAD or by calling E-ZPass Customer Service directly at 1-877-762-7824.

Tolling begins at the Downtown and Midtown tunnels on February 1, 2014. Gantries over the roadway will collect tolls electronically—with no cash option and no stopping to pay at tollbooths. Drivers will pay the lowest rate using E-ZPass. For more information on tolling, 2014 toll rates and how All-Electronic Tolling (AET) works, visit DriveERT.com.
