Man taken to hospital after fire at Suffolk home

Suffolk, Va. – A man was taken to the hospital on Monday night after a fire broke out at a Suffolk home.

Fire crews say this happened in the 900 block of East Washington Street in the downtown area. Calls came in to emergency crews at around 7:04 p.m.  and units were on the scene at 7:09 p.m.

They say a two-story home was converted into two apartments and the fire started on the second-floor.

No one was on the first floor at the time.

Crews say two people have been displaced and a man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Red Cross is helping one of the residents by providing food, clothing, and lodging assistance.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.
