Newport News, Va. – A Newport News woman will spend the next 33 months behind bars for what police say was her role in the murder of 22-year-old Jonte Terry in 2008.
Tayvonna Licorish, 26, was charged on January 16th, 2013 with accessory after the fact and misprision of a felony. She pleaded guilty in October to misprision of a felony.
Court records say Licorish’s boyfriend, Aronte Jarvis, was part of a gang called Thug Relations.
They say the gang operated out of Aqueduct Apartments, Michael’s Apartments, Warwick Lawns, Warwick Town Homes, Heritage Trace Apartments, Mariner’s Landing Apartments, Sharon Drive and the Savage Drive areas.
Officials say Terry was shot in the K-Mart parking lot on Oriana Drive on February 3, 2008.
Jarvis was charged with the murder. He was sentenced to life in prison in September.
Officials say Licorish was with Jarvis and their child at the time of the shooting. Witnesses said she was driving the car as Terry tried to get away.
After the murder, they say Jarvis gave the pistol that was used during the crime to another gang member who then got rid of the gun to try to hide it from police.
They say Licorish told a few witnesses that she was there when the shooting occurred.
