NewsChannel 3 is taking you behind the scenes of The Young and the Restless.
NewsChannel 3’s Laila Muhammad recently made the trip out to Los Angeles and visited the set of the show and got to chat with several cast members.
Police Chief Paul Williams is a good guy on the show… and in real life, actor Doug Davidson is also a nice guy.
Laila caught up with Doug on the set of the Genoa City Police Department.
Davidson is proud his character has moved from Private Detective to Chief of Police.
“With a soap opera that’s been on for so long, you get to grow and move and change and develop your personality, get married, go through life,” he says. “I’ve been here since May ’78. May 15th was my first day on The Young and the Restless. It was a half hour and it was a much different look than you see today.”
Davidson is the longest running cast member since the death of the show’s matriarch, Jeanne Cooper, who played Katherine Chancellor.
He says working with Cooper made him a better actor.
“This was not an accident we chose to do our interview here in the Chancellor mansion. She lives with us every day. Her spirit reigns through these halls. She was one of the most amazing women I`ve ever met. She was a mother, a confidant, an executive. She held the bar so high,” Davidson says.
“I think it’s so fantastic after 40 years and 25 years at number one that we’re still cranking it out. And we honestly take real pride in making the best hour of television we possibly can,” he says.
