Two wounded in Newport News shootout

Newport News, Virginia – Police say around 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, officers patrolling in the area of Orcutt Avenue heard gunshots.

Calls were also made to 9-1-1 and officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of 32nd Street.

As officers were checking the area, they were notified of the shooting.

A 21-year-old man was located near 25th Street and Chestnut Avenue with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. He told police that he ran to the area after he was shot.

As officers were investigating, a 19-year-old male reported he had been shot in the arm.

Both victims received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The 21-year-old was treated and released.

There is no suspect information at this time and the incident remains under investigation, including an unconfirmed report that two groups were shooting at each other.
