Winter Storm Warning extended to all of Hampton Roads; NE NC under Winter Weather Advisory

The National Weather Service has expanded the Winter Storm Warning to all of Southside and the Peninsulas. The warning begins 9am Monday and extends until midnight Monday night.

Residents under the warning can expect accumulations of 2 to 4 inches of snow and sleet along with a light ice accumulation.

Temperatures will start in the upper 30s to lower 40s early Monday morning and fall into the lower to mid 20s by afternoon.

Winds will be from the north increasing to 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph inland and increasing to 20 to 25 mph with gusts 35 to 40 mph near the coast.

Rain will transition to a brief wintry mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain by late Monday morning. The wintry mix will become primarily snow and sleet during the afternoon and evening hours.

Hazardous travel resulting from icy, then snow covered roads is expected by late morning Monday, which will then continue through the afternoon and evening hours.
