VDOT says they are prepared for the winter weather that is moving across the state.
Crews have started to treat area interstates and primary routes with materials in preparation for the sleet and snow moving into the area.
As snow begins to accumulate, interstates and primary roads will be plowed first and then the more heavily traveled secondary roads.
Crews plan on working in 12-hour shifts, 24-hours a day, until the storm ends.
VDOT Hampton Roads’ District has over 300 pieces of equipment for snow- and ice-control activities, and supplies have been replenished from earlier winter events.
Motorists are advised to slow down and give equipment operators the right of way for their safety and yours and only drive if absolutely necessary.
