Crews battle house fire in Newport News

Newport News Fire crews are working to determine the cause of a fire at a two-story home in the 800 block of 24th Street.

The fire department says they received a call at 3:32p.m. Thursday reporting the fire.

Arriving crews reported fire venting from the back of the house on both levels.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire from advancing throughout the house. It was deemed under control at 4:08 p.m.

The house was vacant at the time of the fire. There were no known injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The cause is still under investigation.
