Police looking for burglar in Portsmouth

UPDATE: As of April 18th, 2014, William E. Proffitt Jr. has been taken into custody by Portsmouth Police.

Portsmouth Police are looking for a man who burglarized a home on March 10th.

Police say 46-year-old William E. Proffitt, Jr. kicked in the door of a home in the 10 block of Woodland Street and took several pieces of jewelry and money before leaving.

Detectives found the victim’s stolen jewelry at two local pawn shops, where Proffitt had pawned it several days earlier.

Proffitt is a white male, approximately 5’11” and weighs 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes.

Proffitt has also been known to reside in the 500 block of Beacon Road, Portsmouth and 4600 block of Peek Trail, Chesapeake. Proffitt currently has active warrants for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Larceny with the Intent to Sell, Destruction of Property and Obtaining Money by False Pretenses.
