Elizabeth City, N.C. – An Elizabeth City man faces numerous charges after deputies were called about a possible domestic violence case at his home last week.
The initial call about 42-year-old Richard Akers Jr. came into the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office at 10am on Thursday.
When deputies arrived at the home in the 1400 Block of North Road in Elizabeth City they found a woman who said Akers had repeatedly assaulted her and threatened her with a gun in incidents dating back to November 2013.
As the investigation continued deputies learned Akers was a convicted felon who was not allowed to be in possession of a firearm.
Deputies also seized several firearms and ammunition from the residence during the arrest.
Akers was arrested and charged with 1 count of Possession of Firearm by Felon, 1 count of Assault by Pointing a Gun, 5 counts of 2nd Degree Kidnapping, 13 counts of Assault on a Female, and 6 counts of Communicating Threats.
He is currently in jail on an $82,000 bond.
