Man wanted for attempted armed robbery of Newport News mini-mart

Newport News, Va. – Newport News police need your help to solve an attempted robbery from a business.

On Friday night, April 4, 2014, at 11:55 p.m., an unknown man entered the Exxon gas station and mini-mart located at 14793 Warwick Blvd. and attempted to rob a clerk at gunpoint.

Surveillance video shows the man entering the store, displaying a handgun, then abruptly running away.

The clerk/owner was armed and saw the man entering with the handgun, police say. The clerk displayed his handgun before the robbery suspect could react. When the suspect recognized the situation, he turned and ran from the business.

The man is described as a bi-racial light skinned male in his thirties between 5’3” to 5’4” tall, wearing a black knit cap, white rag or shirt over his face, a dark colored jacket, blue jeans, brown work style boot-like shoes, and displaying a dark colored handgun, police say.
