WWE’s The Ultimate Warrior dies at 54

The WWE’s Ultimate Warrior has died. The wrestler’s death was confirmed late Tuesday night.

“WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior,” the WWE posted on its website. “WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans.”

James Hellwig, the man who played The Ultimate Warrior, leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

The 54-year-old wrestler, who began his career as the Dingo Warrior, joined the WWE (then the WWF) in 1987. He became WWE Champion by defeating Hulk Hogan in WrestleMania VI.

“Loss always has a way of reminding us to live and love as greatly as we can. My prayers and strength to his family,” former wrestler Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson tweeted about the Warrior’s death.
