Hampton man faces arson charges

Hampton, Va. – The Hampton Fire Marshal’s office has arrested a Hampton citizen for arson.

It happened on Thursday, April 10, 2014 in the 600 block of Chapel Street.

Hampton fire units responded to the report of a house fire at 6 a.m. As units arrived, smoke was seen at the eaves of the home. The home was searched for any occupants, as the suppression operations were deployed.

No occupants were found in the home during this operation, according to fire officials.

The fire marshal’s office conducted an investigation to determine the origin and cause. As a result of their investigation, Kenneth R. Carpenter has been arrested on two felony counts of arson. One count for burning a dwelling on April 10, 2014 and one count of attempting to burn a dwelling on March 30, 2014. Both of these incidents occurred at the same location, officials say.
