Newport News, Va. – A Newport News man was arrested and charged with murder over the weekend, police tell NewsChannel 3.

It happened on Friday, April 25, 2014. At 10:20 p.m., police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 13000 block of Sojourner Court.

Officers located a 41-year-old Newport News man suffering from at least two gunshot wounds, lying just outside the entrance to an apartment. Medics arrived and pronounced the man deceased at 10:22 p.m.

Police say the victim, Vidal Lamont Sills of the 700 block of Waterfront Circle, was visiting the residents of an apartment when another man, 23-year-old Joshua Johnson Caffey of Colony Road in Newport News, joined the gathering. Witnesses say an argument ensued between the two men, who took their disagreement outside. During the argument, police say Caffey produced a hand gun and fired, striking Sills.

Next of kin was notified at the scene.

Caffey fled the area prior to police arrival.

Detectives obtained warrants for the arrest of Joshua Johnson Caffey for murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
