Norfolk, Va. – Nearly 800 students walked across the stage at Scope Saturday to receive their diplomas from Norfolk State University.
The spring commencement ceremony included undergraduates, master’s and doctoral students.
Among those students was a woman who finally received her degree more than 40 years after beginning her studies at NSU.
Rosena Johnson first attended NSU in 1971 but put her studies on hold to raise her family and move around with her husband, who was in the military, according to an NSU spokesperson.
Johnson decided to finish what she started last year. Saturday the 60-year-old earned her degree in interdisciplinary studies.
