UPDATE: The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been canceled.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 8pm for much of central Virginia and central North Carolina, including Hertford, Northampton, and Bertie counties.
A slow moving cold front will bring heavy rain to the region tonight. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop by late this afternoon and persist overnight. Most of rain/storms will move into Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina overnight.
Some storms may become strong to severe with gusty winds being the primary threat.
