A 52-year-old man was rescued from a dive boat approximately 18 miles southeast of Hatteras Inlet on Sunday.

The captain of the dive boat ‘Under Pressure,’ contacted Coast Guard North Carolina Command Center watchstanders at approximately 3:00 p.m. and reported that the diver was suffering from signs of decompression sickness.

The Coast Guard crew arrived on scene at approximately 4:30 p.m. on a 47-foot Motor Lifeboat from Coast Guard Station Hatteras Inlet.

The crew transferred the man to their boat and took him to the station where they were met by an awaiting Coast Guard aircrew on a MH-60 Jayhawk from Air Station Elizabeth City.

The diver was taken via helicopter to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk.
