Newport News, Va. – A Newport News mom was charged with child neglect after her son was found alone, hungry, and in need of a shower, police tell NewsChannel 3.
On May 29, a little before 5 p.m., a Newport News police sergeant was waved down by an employee of a business in the 9900 block of Warwick Blvd. in reference to a 9-year-old boy who was at the business.
An officer was then dispatched to meet the Sgt. at the child’s home in the 100 block of Rivermont Drive.
The mother of the child was also at this location.
Police say the child had been at the business for almost an hour on that day and there was not an adult with him. In addition, this was not the first time this child came to the business. He had come to the business before school or after school on several occassions and was always hungry and in need of a shower, police say.
The child’s mother was arrested and charged with child neglect. She has been identified as 32-year-old Kristine Lee Hudson of the 100 block of Rivermont Drive in Newport News.
Child Protective Services was also contacted.
