Virginia Beach, Va. – A 16-year-old has died after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Virginia Beach Blvd. on a skateboard Saturday night.
It happened around 9:00 p.m. in the 4000 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard at Stepney Lane, according to police.
All eastbound vehicles on Virginia Beach Boulevard had green lights when the victim was crossing in the crosswalk on a skateboard.
A driver in the left turn lane stopped short of striking the victim. Then, another driver in one of the straight lanes struck the victim as he crossed into the path of travel for that vehicle, police say.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police announced Tuesday that the victim had died as a result of the injuries.
Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in this crash.
The case remains under investigation.
