A 39-year-old Currituck County man has been charged with committing a sex offense with a child.
According to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, a call was received on Monday in reference to the reported sex offense.
Reportedly, the mother of the child discovered the suspect, David W. Giles, and her child together in a shed in the backyard of her residence.
Giles then took the reporting person’s vehicle and fled the scene. Deputies were able to stop the vehicle on Shawboro Road and arrested Giles.
At the time of his arrest, he was charged with Driving while Impaired, Violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order, No Operators License and Domestic Criminal Trespass.
On Tuesday, he was additionally charged with Crime against Nature, Indecent Liberties with a Child and Sex Offense with a Child.
His total bond for all the charges has been set at $503,000.
The child involved was transported to a medical facility and released.
