A Newport News woman was arrested and charged with felony child neglect after leaving her child in a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.
Police say they responded to the 12200 block of Jefferson Avenue after someone reported that the one-year-old child was alone in the car with the windows down and engine running.
The person reporting the incident said they had been looking for the child’s mother for about 15 minutes.
Police arrived to find the child with his mother, 23-year-old Vallyn Allysha Boston, who stated she had gone to two businesses in the area while the child was in the car.
Boston was arrested and charged with one count of felony child neglect.
The child was placed in the custody of his grandfather. Child Protective Services was notified.
