Virginia Beach, Va. – A Virginia Beach judge denied bond to the man charged with trying to rob a check cashing business which led to a standoff with police.

Officers arrested 25-year-old Clarence Brown last week after they say he tried to rob the Ace Cash Express on Lynnhaven Parkway on Friday.

According to police the only employee working took action by locking him inside while she escaped.

Police responded and surrounded the business, and after more than an hour, Brown surrendered.

The judge denied bond this morning and ordered Brown to undergo a mental health evaluation before his trial.

Brown told the judge he suffers from schizophrenia which his attorney argued may have led to Friday’s incident.
