Coast Guard, Navy searching Rappahannock River for possible missing boater

Posted

The Coast Guard and Navy are searching for a person who may have fallen from a boat near Totuskey Creek in the Rappahannock River on Thursday.

The Coast Guard says a good Samaritan contacted Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads watchstanders at approximately 9:42 a.m. Thursday morning and reported an unmanned, partially submerged skiff adrift with a fishing pole aboard.

A crew was dispatched on a 25-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Milford Haven to search for the boat’s potential occupant.

Helicopter aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Naval Station Norfolk are also assisting in the search.

The boat has a Virginia registration number and the name “Quachica” on it.

Anyone with information that can help aid in the search is encouraged to contact Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads Command Center watchstanders at 757-638-6637.
