The Hampton Roads Community Foundation awarded more than $1.3 million in education-related grants in June to organizations focused on education, arts, and culture to help area youth.
The foundation manages permanent funds created by donors. They invest their gifts to grow over time while awarding grants to nonprofit organizations and scholarships to students.
Nonprofit awards for June include:
ACCESS College Foundation – $500,000 to support early college awareness for middle school, high school advising services and support services for college students
United Way of South Hampton Roads – $253,161 to expand the United for Children summer program to Tidewater Park Elementary School
ForKids Inc. – $200,000 to help elementary school children who are homeless
Suffolk Education Foundation – $148,000 for Book Buddies program in elementary schools
WHRO – $110,000 for an online high school program that teaches skills needed in college and the workplace
Mosaic Steel Orchestra – $100,000 for a steel drum program for youth from low-income families.
