Sailboat captain medevaced from 127 miles east of Virginia Beach

The Coast Guard medevaced a 68-year-old man from a sailboat on Friday after crew members reported he was suffering from a skin infection.

According to the Coast Guard, they were notified by a crewman aboard the 37-foot sailbot Bad Cat at approximately 12:24 p.m.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew and an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Coast Guard Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina were dispatched to assist.

The aircrews arrived on scene at approximately 2:15 p.m. The man was hoisted aboard the helicopter and transferred to Norfolk Sentara General Hospital personnel at approximately 3:10 p.m.
