A Suffolk man turned himself in to the Northampton County, North Carolina Sheriff’s Office this past Sunday.

Raymond Allen Goodwin, age 23, allegedly sexually assaulted a Northampton County juvenile, according to Sheriff Jack Smith of Northampton County.

Goodwin is being held on a $100,000 bond.

Warrants were issued on June 6, 2014.

Goodwin was formally charged with statutory rape/sex offense of a person who is 13, 14, 15.

The suspect had his first court appearance Thursday morning, and is still in jail, according to Sheriff Smith.

The incident happened in Severn, North Carolina. Officers responded to a report of an assault. Once officers arrived on scene, they learned it was for the sexual assault of a juvenile.

Authorities say the incident happened while the child’s mother was asleep, and the juvenile left the home. After the mother realized her daughter was missing, she left the home in search of her daughter. On her way back home, she spotted her daughter walking towards the house. The daughter told her mother she was with Goodwin.

The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
