UPDATE: Residents evacuated after gas leak in Suffolk neighborhood

UPDATE:  The leak has now been secured and residents have been allowed back into their homes. 

Suffolk, Va. – About 12 people have been evacuated after a gas leak in Suffolk on Monday.

Crews are now on the scene in the 7100 block of Arrington Street. They say a contractor hit a gas line there.

Emergency crews were notified at around 2:54 p.m.

People in the area were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Gas crews are now on the site. They’ve secured the line and they are now testing to figure out when they will be able to allow residents to return to their homes.
